I realize we’re a day early for Thirsty Thursday, but National Scotch Day – which is today – can’t wait. (Yes, on Thirsty Thursday, we often talk about “adult beverages” other than wine!)
My first adult experience with Scotch, unadulterated, was not a pleasant one. I was a young bride, and my new husband and I had been invited to dinner at his father’s friends’ house.
I only remember that because it made everyone thirsty, so the Scotch glasses kept getting refilled.
Before I knew it, the hostess had excused herself. Hmmmm…
Next, we were being ushered to the door. No dinner. And after that, it was a very long time before I touched Scotch again. (Or caviar – but that’s another story.)
I grew up in a Scotch-loving Italian family. (Go figure!)
Dewar’s was our house brand (Chivas Regal for special occasions), and the Scotch Sour was my parents’ go-to cocktail.
Tangy, strong and pure. No bitters or egg white.
As I became an older teen, I got to play mixologist, often enjoying (a short) one myself.
As the clans of the tartans, kilts and bagpipes would say, Slàinte mhòr agus a h-uile beannachd duibh.
I wish you the very same – Great health and every good blessing to you – today for National Scotch Day, and for every day to come!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this wee detour from the world of vino. Tomorrow, I’ll bring you a new eZine issue, welcoming all of our new Drink Wine With Dinner® Club members!
